Thursday’s Abbeyism

Friday, March 14, 2014 is the 25th anniversary of the passing of Edward Abbey who was a popular writer and vocal preservationist of our lands and waters and outspoken critic of the “greed and power industrial culture”.  We’ll remember Edward Abbey all this week with a pithy Abbeyism for each day.

“We are belabored by the insistence on the part of politicians, businessmen and military leaders, and the claque of scriveners who serve them, that “growth” and “power” are intrinsic goods of which we can never have enough, or even too much.  As if gigantism were an end in itself”.  “Growth for the sake of growth is the ideology of the cancel cell.”
