The romance of rivers….. by Richard Simmons

“Who has not sped down a highway, crossed a bridge and for a fleeting moment been intrigued by the sight of a beautiful river flowing beneath it?   Perhaps the view has raised questions:  Where does it begin?  What is the terrain at its headwaters?  How deep?  How Swift?  What lies around the bend?  Where does it go?  To what mother river does it belong?  If it could speak, what stories would it tell?………. There is a special romance about each river drawn from its scenery, history, wildlife, vegetation, industry, agriculture, transportation, archaeology, geology, and in many instances, its Indian associations.”

Richard S. Simmons,   The Rivers of Indiana,  1985
